Is a rental form or release required?
 
Everyone signs a liability release in order to participate in an event or lesson or training. For off-premises rentals you must sign a rental contract. There is also a credit card hold that applies in many cases for longer term rentals while the rental is taking place. In any casse, a Valid ID with picture and credit card: Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express will be required for a security deposit on each Segway. All damage to the Segway is the responsibility of the rider. Please keep in mind that each Segway costs over $5000.00.
 
 
Can I arrange for a private group event ?

 

Yes - We offer private group events for Corporate functions and families in the Bay Area and Northern California. Whether it's a family vacation or company conference. Private tours are for groups from 5 to 30 people. Larger groups can be split. Prices will be quoted after we customize your event.

 

 

How far in advance do I need to reserve?

We take walk-ins for lesons and rentals out of the shop almost every day. Call 888-8SEGWAY to check status before you come. We recommend about one week advance notification for unit rentals in the Bay Area and at least two weeks for out of state rentals. We regularly rent out during peak use periods in summertime. Many patrons advance schedule rentals up to 6 months ahead of time. We encourage you to make reservations as long as possible in advance of your rental date. We offer rescheduling of cancellations within 72 hours of the rental date. You must reschedule a new date. We do not offer money back refunds. We do not offer any refunds for any reason once we are within 72 hours of the scheduled rental. 
 
 
What if I want a specific event date or a specific rental date? 
 
You must schedule your rental or event for a specific date to lock in services, insurance, personnel, and Segway equipment for the specific desired dates. In some rare cases, your initial rental dates may be full and in that case you can receive an immediate refund of any money paid if you can not schedule an alternate date. We have one of the largest rental fleets, and we can draw from other Bay Area Segway dealers and rental operations so we can fill almost any rental requests.  An e-mail record of your pending order will be sent to you following completion of your order. For every confirmed booking you will receive a 2nd e-mail confirming your booking and reservation. Once your booking is confirmed, yu cn not receive a monetary refund.
 
 

What is your transaction rates?

 

Prices are per person and per event, as specified. All Transactions are in US Dollars. All prices and availability are subject to change without notice. Rental prices or availability are NOT guaranteed until full payment is received AND confirmation provided.

 
 
Are the events cancelled in case of rain?
No, our events run rain or shine. We have ponchos available for anyone that needs them. Cancellations/rescheduling must be more than 3 days ahead of the scheduled rental time.
  
Am I allowed to take pictures or make stops?
We allow a great deal of flexibility in our rentals and events. Events can be custom arranged however our patrons desire. Lessons and training allow for short breaks.
 
 
Can I rent a Segway without a guide?

Our business is Segway Rentals. You can rent a Segway and take it with you, however, you must sign a rental contract. We do not have designated tour routes, and we are not a tour company.
 
 
Do You Provide Insurance?
 
We carry 2 million dollars of liability coverage and can indemnify your Company for any event or function that is done in conjunction with our staff. When you rent Segways and take them with you, you must sign a contract and you take full responsibility for any liability or damage to the unit.
 
 
Can I purchase a Segway from you?
We offer up to 60% of your rental fees back when you purchase a new unit from us. We have new and used units available. And we have one of the largest rental fleets, so we have more used units than almost anybody else! We can help you get any Segway you want. Nobody has more options. Are the Segways safe for children or people with disabilities?
Although riding a Segway is relatively easy to do and learn, we do require that all riders be at least 12 years of age for any supervised tour or event. Most of our sessions begin with training and lessons. We will practice on the Segways until everyone is successful. We guarantee that you can ride a Segway, or we give you your money back!

What is a Segway?

The Segway Personal Transporter is the first of its kind-a self-balancing, personal transportation device designed to go anywhere people do. The Segway is easy to ride, but it takes a few minutes to gain stability. It moves where you move, and it responds to you, sensing where you want to go. The Segway handles the balancing for you, so that you're always upright as you glide through any environment, We have all Segway models including Gen 1 and Gen 2, i2's and x2's. You can try or rent any machine you want.

 

 

Is there a weight limit?

There is a recommended limit of 280 lbs. and we ask our guests to be within a reasonable range of this limit.

 
How do I learn to ride a Segway?
 
All first time customers are required to take a training session to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. You can rent if you already know how to ride, and have participated in another learn to ride program or Segway Tour Program. 
 
 

How long, fast and far can I ride?

 
The Segway has a top speed of 12.5 miles per hour, and we do not put any limiters on the rental machines. All machines are set at full riding speed. For beginners and lessons, we limit the speed until riders have a feel for the machine. Riding times vary with hills, rider weight and speed. The Segway has settings that limit the top speed. An i2 can go about 25 miles on a charge, while an x2 does about 15 miles on a charge.
 
 
Where are you located?
 
Our facility is in Oakland CA. 212 International Blvd Oakland CA in the Segway Building. 
 
 
What days and times are you open?
 
We are open every day except Sundays and holidays during the winter months. You can schedule rentals for any time. We are open seven days a week most of the year.  We are Closed Christmas and New Years Day.
 

 

Who can ride a Segway ? Are Segways safe for children or people with disabilities? What about pregnant women ?

 
Riding a Segway is easier than riding a bike because it's more intuitive, but it still requires some balance and everybody needs some training just to learn the basics. Everybody is required to have some basic training before they can rent a Segway. It requires that you can stand and maintain positioin on the Segway. Easier than a bike perhaps, but not quite as easy as some people believe. Segway riding is not recommended for pregnant women. Unfortunately, pregnant women will not be permitted to participate in events. Safety is very important to us: All guests must be age 14 or older and weight at least 100 lbs. (45 kilos).  We will practice on the Segways until everyone feels comfortable.
 
   
Where can I park close to the Oakland Office and Warehouse?
 
We are located at the corner of Second Ave and International Blvd in Oakland CA. You can park on the street on International Blvd in front of the building at 212 International Blvd Oakland CA. Rental units are in the front of the building.
 
 

Are gratuities for the personnel included in the price?

 
We do not include a fixed price gratuity as we want to keep the rentals affordable for as many guests as possible. Guide gratuities are completely at the discretion of the guest.  Gratuities are included as part of the pre-paid cost for our private group tours and corporate events.
 
 
What do I get when I buy a rental or event?
 
Your proof of payment guarantees that you receive a rental. We send a voucher by email or mail good for the rental or event that you purchase. The voucher has no expiration. You can get a confirmed reservation date at any time after buying your voucher or immediately subsequent to buying your rental online.
  
 
Do You Deliver?

Is there a deposit required for rental?

 
Yes a credit card hold is required for renting, riding, and training in most situations. You must provide both a driver's license number and credit card number.
 
 
Do I have to wear a helmet?
 

It is our policy to require renters to wear helmets. One will be provided to you free of charge.

 
 

Is there a minimum age to rent?

 
Due to insurance requirements, the minimum age is 14 for all events, lessons and training.
 
 

Where can I ride the Segway PT?

 
Rentals are flexible. Take it on location, or on vacation. We also design packages for business events. We ship under certain circumstances (case by case analysis required) and we provide very low shipping rates. Segway PT varies my jurisdiction but are allowed in most jurisdictions ntionwide.
